Abstract: This study aimed at examines the relationship between self-consciousness and self-monitoring. We investigated on university students (N=136) who belonged to a private university in Tokyo. The self-consciousness scale consisted of 30items and the self-monitoring scale consisted of 18 items were measured on 5 point Likert scales. As a result of factor analysis for self- consciousness scale, three factors were confirmed; the private self-consciousness, the public selfconsciousness, and external self-consciousness. And the factor analysis for self-monitoring indicated that there were three factors. The correlation analysis between self-consciousness and self-monitoring was weak correlation, but there's a major difference between public and external self-consciousness. The study revealed that the partial correlation analysis showed similar results with the correlation analysis.
